The Five-Fourth-Eight

This story shows the power of men in a patriarchal society. Mr. Blake is a office worker in New York, by using his power and hierarchy of society, he used his secretary sexually and just fired her from his office. However, he didn't even feel a piece of guilt, and ignored what she wanted to talked to him. During taking the train, Ms.Dent(his last secretary) came next to him and had a conversation by threatening to kill him. Her saying was about her hardships after become fired by him. She was mentally ill and looked fallen in the illusion.

If I were Mr.Blake, I would be very scared of her. Because she is threatening Mr. Blake by gun, and she looks like an insane person. The situation is such a horror.

This short story is developed from a male gaze, so there seems to be no big problem, but in fact, the main character is almost a sex offender.

The me-too movement came out in my mind after read this story. If Mr. Blake was from the modern era, I think he would be addressed as a me-too perpetrator.

Even Ms.Dent looks strange, I feel sympathy for her and feel bad about Mr.Blake. What's more upsetting is that even after talking with Ms.Dent, Mr.Blake don't feel guilty and don't regret about what he did.
