The Lottery

The lottery by Shirley Jackson is one of the creepiest story that I've read. In the beginning, the story illustrates peaceful setting that never gives some inference to think of the horror would be come soon. It gave me a big shock in the ending, that Tessie Hutchinson dies for the result of the lottery. Because in the beginning, she showed up late and fears and didn't really wanted to join the lottery. But she became the sacrifice to the ritual.

Most of the people enjoys the lottery but some does not. However, the town keeps to do lottery, because it gives some benefit. I think this story shows Humanity's Darkest Forces well. Like KKK and Female infanticide in our society. And feminism shows in this story too. The person who represents the household is man, but the one who sacrifices for the ritual is woman, it is totally unfair. And I can't understand why the harvest ceremony for the god and some religious thing is happening for a long time until these days.
