Eveline by James Joyce

Eveline is my favorite story through the James Joyce's short stories I read. The background of Eveline is showing the patriarchal society and Eveline is the character which is the usual women who sacrificing for the family and brothers.

I was disappointed about Eveline's decision to not to leave with Frank and to keep her life in Ireland. Even  she was struggling with his father and threaten by her father, she does not resist about it. She would be very stressful and feel like her life is meaningless because her life lost self identity.

I think she must take an effort to rebuild and take initiative of her life. And leaving to Buenos Ayres with Frank could be the first chance to change there ordinary life. If she moved to Buenos Ayres, she would be feel guilt about leaving without her brothers and father, and lonely about living in strange place in a status of foreigner.

However, if she really wanted to escape her family, I strongly think she should present go-ahead, adventurous face.
